Care Instructions for Hand-Forged C100 Carbon Steel Knives
Congratulations on your new hand-forged knife made of high-quality C100 carbon steel! To ensure you enjoy your knife for a long time, please observe the following care instructions:
1. First Use
•Before first use, clean the knife with warm water and a soft cloth. Do not use dish soap, to protect the blade's surface.
•Dry the knife immediately and thoroughly to prevent rust formation.
2. Cleaning After Use
•Always clean the knife by hand with warm water. Avoid aggressive detergents and do not use abrasive sponges, as these can damage the blade.
•Dry the knife immediately after cleaning with a soft cloth.
•Never put the knife in the dishwasher, as the aggressive detergents and moisture can damage the carbon steel and the handle.
3. Blade Care
•To prevent rust formation, apply a thin layer of cooking oil (e.g., Ballistol oil or another food-safe oil) to the blade after cleaning.
•Store the knife in a dry place and avoid moisture.
•Avoid acidic foods such as lemons, tomatoes, or vinegar, which remain on the blade for extended periods, as these can attack the protective layer.
4. Handle Care
•If the handle is made of wood, you should occasionally treat it with a little linseed oil or a special wood care oil to keep the material supple and prevent cracks.
5. Resharpening the Blade
•Carbon steel knives are easy to resharpen. Use a sharpening stone with a fine and a coarse side for this purpose.
•Maintain an angle of about 15 degrees when sharpening to preserve the blade's sharpness.
6. Storage
•Store the knife safely, ideally in a knife sheath, knife block, or wooden box.
•Avoid storing the knife loosely in a drawer to prevent damage to the blade.
Additional Notes
•Slight discoloration on the blade is normal and results from the natural patina that develops on carbon steel. This patina provides additional protection against rust.
•Should rust still form, it can be removed with fine steel wool or a special rust eraser. Afterward, the blade should be oiled again.
With proper care, your hand-forged C100 carbon steel knife will remain a loyal companion and maintain its sharpness and quality for many years. Thank you for choosing our handcrafted product!
